2008 = Slow Death for Trend Following Systems
September 19, 2008
Morning Commentary 8/27/2008
Stocks gained slightly on Tuesday, but volume was again low. This has been a very tough market to trade, especially for those traders who use trend-following systems. There simply has been no trend in either direction. Wave Rider is such a system, and it has had a hard time getting anything going this year. The system is down 1.8% for the year. SCMV Weekly is not technically a trend-following system, but has some trend components to it. This system has also had difficulties in 2008, showing a current gain of only 1.4% for the year. Things aren’t likely to change until we see some resolution from the financial and energy sectors.
Tier 1 Steady MV has six new signals for today - 3 sells and 3 buys. Have a great Wednesday!
